The Majestic Line's 2009 Season is over...

Here at The Majestic Line we can hardly believe our 2009 season is over!

All three crews have fantastic memories of our 2009 season thanks to our wonderful guests.

Thank you to everyone who has sent in photos, poems and stories of their Majestic Line adventures for the Weekly Diary. I'm sure you will agree it has been fantastic to follow all the cruises of both the Glen Massan and the Glen Tarsan over the last six months.

Thanks also to all the guests who took time to fill in the post-cruise questionnaire. This is invaluable to us and we use the results to build on for next year. We will be choosing a winner very shortly so watch this space! One of our guests wil receive a beautiful Majestic Line hamper filled full of local goodies....

The Glen Tarsan - Another Poem from our guests

The Glen Tarsan

To the tune of Wild Rover

We joined the Glen Tarsan

with hil-ar-i-tee

and began our adventure

at Port-a-vad- dee

And It’s no nay never

No nay never no more

I will play the wild rover

no never no more

The bosun named David

Is considerate and Kind

Not once has he left anybody behind.

And it’s no nay…..

Ian the quiet one

Makes tricky decisions

Grounding the tender with style and precision.

And it’s no nay……

Gary the Chef,

So dark and good looking

Tempts all with his wonderful cooking.

And it’s no nay……

Taff is the Skipper so tall and so brave

With tales of his past life

He keeps us amazed!

And it’s no nay……

We joined the Glen Tarsan

With such trepidation

We leave on the morrow

With much adoration

And it’s no nay……..

Another guest poem!

Sailing along on a crest of a wave
With lots of fun + a real good rave
So Jenny's the star of the Glen Massan
And Jonathan host to our Scottish clan
On friday night it's the Thomas Cubitt
We've packed our clothes + our kit
On saturday late we'er on the quay
And a bit later we're out at sea
On sunday am its an 8:30 start
And then off by tender to castle Duart
We lunch aboard ship + without time for a kip
We'er back to shore for culture and more
On Monday it rained so by bus to Iona
A wonderful place for an old and out loner
On Tuesday evening we dine like the queen
We've seen all the hills + the wonderful scenes
And then we boat for much of the day
Except for a walk in Tobermory
On Thursday we kipped and walked in the hills
Neil and Moira have recovered from ills
Margareta the cook is a double hugette
We are all now deeply in Jonathans debt
So Thursday dinner is birthday eve
It's all gone so fast we will have to leave
But wait a second more, I think,
It's off to Myers and back on the drink
And there we'll really celebrate
It's probably the first time I wont be late
So there we are, it's all i can say
The trip has passed, as fast as a day
To Scott, Margareta, Moira + Neil
We'd like to thank you for how we feel
Good in body + good in soul
All as one and forever whole!

A Guest Poem: McGull by Jan Jeeves

There was a gull named McGull
Who descended and sat on the hull,
We knew from his stance
And the way that he danced,
That his antics would never be dull.

The skipper and crew were not pleased
That he came every time, just to tease
For his tea he was keen
To pay, he just preened
Until Lyne threw her lamb to the breeze.

McGull took a second to act,
As into the waves it dropped back
With a swoop he retrieved
His reward, he believed
As onto the rail he went back.

McTaff then appeared with his gat
Took aim at the place where McGull sat
His aim it was true,
The pebble it flew
McGull took off and said 'Drat'!

Award winning cheeses, chutneys, jams, pickles, whisky, herbs, fine ales, seafood, chocolate and even lavender marmalades are all on the itinerary.

Guests will be dropped off in various locations to meet the owners, take a guided tour or talk, and of course enjoy samplings of all the goods on offer! There is also a wine tasting and whisky tasting organised onboard with one of Argyll’s leading vintners.

Imagine spectacular sea lochs with unspoiled glens, mountains and forests as the backdrop for the delicious locally-sourced organic meals cooked by the onboard chef every day. This area is rich in wildlife and dotted with small fishing communities and castles. The islands of Arran, Bute and Cumbrae have beautiful coastlines of sandy bays, scattered with picturesque villages and historic buildings.

Paterson's Whole Boat Charter

Glen Tarsan
Murder Mystery review

The backdrop of Lochranza provided a stunning setting for "Murder on the Tipanic". The ship's 4th Engineer had been found lifeless in the swimming pool and the Captain, expertly played by Taff the real skipper, decided to bring together those that knew the deceased to ascertain who was the murderer.

After some excellent food and scripted dialogue, one or two Isle of Arran drams and some fine investigative questioning, Mae West (Lifeguard) was able to accurately deduce that Barry Glitter (Ship's Entertainer) had committed the criminal act."

Many thanks for your help throughout the booking process, we all had a brilliant time.

Best wishes,
Alan.

From the moment we stepped on board and embarked upon our adventure on the high seas, all 12 of us felt relaxed and happy. The care and attention from Taff, Gary, David and Ian has been second to none. I can't possibly go to my Scottish Slimmer's meeting tonight - Gary, your food was superlative! What a way to spend a few days - I hope we will be back (actually I know we will!)

Guest Comments:

There were 12 of us in Noah’s Ark,
We had such fun, what a lark!
We travelled all the Western Isles,
The weather fine, all had smiles,
Glen Massan of The Majestic Line
fed us well and oh, the wine
Available all day and night,
In the morning not so bright!
Andrew, Dougie, Moira and Martin,
The latter being the perfect captain,
Sailed us all from Oban to Staffa
And brought us back again after!
We had a great time on the boat
And managed fine to stay afloat!
There were no days of constant rain
And we all want to come back again!

Take the Wheel!

One of our guests, Betty Cave takes over from our skipper Taff on the Glen Tarsan!

NEW ANCHORAGE!

With not a cloud in the sky, Taff anchored the Glen Tarsan at Ailsa Craig for the very first time. Beautiful.

Ailsa Craig is a well known volcanic rock situated south east of Arran. In line with increasing demand, one Ayrshire company, Kays of Scotland, is responsible for taking 1500 tonnes of granite from Ailsa Criag to make curling stones. In co-operation with the conservation watchdog, Scottish Natural Heritage, they are only taking large boulders from former quarries.

On the west side of Ailsa Craig there is an enornous gannet colony with over 20,000 pairs!

Watch out! Beavers about!

Argyll has long been known to be rich in wildlife and biodiversity. Along with our already-strong seal colonies and otters, there has been a recent re-introduction of beavers into Scotland within the Knapdale area.

After nearly 400 years without the beaver, we will have the opportunity to keep up-to-date on this fascinating species and its growing population. Fingers crossed, we will be able to add them to our ever-expanding wildlife highlights soon!

2009 Season with The Majestic Line

It's finally here! Our 2009 season has started!

Watch this space for the latest news from each of our beautiful boats, the Glen Massan (cruising from Oban) and the Glen Tarsan (cruising out of Holy Loch). Expect wildlife sightings, onshore activity details, any celebrations on either of the boats, as well photographs and feedback from our guests.

The Glen Massan cruised around the Mull of Kintyre last week and welcomed her first guests aboard on Saturday in Oban. They are returning tomorrow from a six-night cruise to Islay, Jura and Gigha.

The Glen Tarsan left Holy Loch on Easter Saturday for her first three-night cruise around Arran. Guests were dropped off at Portavadie after four days of beautiful sunshine, lots of wildlife and beautiful anchorages. The Glen Tarsan already has her second lot of guests on board. In fact, one lady decided to stay on for the second cruise of the week as she enjoyed the first so much!
